Marabo: A Playful Display Font for Editorial Creativity

I was halfway through redesigning a lifestyle blog header when I stumbled upon Marabo. Something about its curves and rhythm felt just right, like the perfect balance between whimsy and clarity. It wasn’t just a font—it was a mood. A visual whisper that said, “This is different.”

Marabo is a display font with a distinct personality. It carries a sense of fun, quirkiness, and authenticity that immediately sets it apart from more conventional typefaces. The letterforms have a gentle flow, with subtle variations in stroke weight and organic curves that give them a handcrafted feel. This makes Marabo ideal for projects where you want to evoke warmth, creativity, and a touch of playfulness without sacrificing readability.

A Lifestyle Blog Redesign

For the blog redesign, I needed a font that could stand out on the header but still be approachable. Marabo fit the bill perfectly. Its open counters and soft serifs gave the header a friendly yet professional look. I used it for the main title and paired it with a clean sans serif font for the subtitle and navigation links. The contrast helped guide the reader’s eye naturally from the bold title down to the supporting text.

The same font worked well for section headers and pull quotes throughout the blog. Marabo’s unique character made each headline feel like a little discovery, encouraging readers to keep scrolling. It also added a consistent visual thread across the entire site, reinforcing the brand’s identity as something fresh and engaging.

Using Marabo in Other Formats

Since the blog was part of a larger content strategy, I tested Marabo in other formats too. For a printable planner, I used it for chapter titles and decorative accents. It brought a warm, inviting feel to the layout, making the planner feel more personal and less like a generic template.

In a recipe ebook, Marabo was the go-to choice for section headings and ingredient lists. The font’s rhythm helped break up dense blocks of text, making the content easier to digest. Even though it’s a display font, its legibility on screen and in print made it surprisingly versatile for longer reading.

For a digital magazine layout, I experimented with Marabo on the cover and editorial feature pages. It added a sense of movement and energy to the design, which aligned perfectly with the magazine’s theme of modern living. I found that using it sparingly—on headlines and pull quotes—kept the overall design balanced and readable.

Readability and Practical Considerations

One thing I noticed early on was how well Marabo performed in different contexts. On mobile layouts, the font remained clear and legible, even at smaller sizes. In PDF exports, it retained its character without any distortion or jagged edges. For print materials, the font’s subtle texture translated beautifully, giving the final product a tactile quality that felt intentional.

When working with long-form content, I found that Marabo worked best for titles, subtitles, and pull quotes rather than body copy. Its expressive nature made it more suited for drawing attention than for sustained reading. That said, I often used it in combination with a more neutral serif or sans serif font for body text, creating a harmonious contrast that elevated the overall design.

Font Pairing and Design Assets

Marabo pairs well with a variety of fonts depending on the project. For a wedding guide, I combined it with a classic serif font for the body copy, which created a timeless and elegant look. In a coaching workbook, I used it alongside a clean sans serif font for captions and navigation, keeping the design modern and uncluttered.

Before committing to Marabo for any client work or paid publication, I checked the included styles, alternates, ligatures, and multilingual support. The font offered a range of weights and stylistic options that allowed for creative flexibility. I also made sure to confirm the commercial licensing terms to ensure it was appropriate for use in ebooks, templates, printables, and digital downloads.

As I continued to explore Marabo, I found that it was more than just a font—it was a design asset that could shape the tone and feel of an entire project. Whether I was working on a newsletter graphic, a course PDF, or a printable planner, Marabo brought a sense of joy and authenticity that resonated with both creators and readers alike.
